A brand new me – the first day of the rest of my life.

January 5th, 2009

OK, so last year was, for me, a series of big moves. Making a new life in Australia, quitting smoking, losing my caffeine addiction, progressing my photography in a big way.

This year is about continuing all of those while getting smaller and fitter. Quitting two major stimulants has had something of a negative impact (well, positive in terms of numbers, which is a net-negative) on my mass, and I’m not the largest I’ve ever been. This is something I need to change.

Today was the first step along those lines.

It’s a combined diet and exercise regime. Diet is based around one of the myriad of meal-replacement shake/soup/bar package things you can buy (they all have hideously informercial-esque names, so I’m not naming the one I’m on, out of sheer embarassment). The first (at least) 9 weeks of the exercise program is based around the Couch to 5k running training, with some other cardio 2 days a week, and light weights work on top. Weekends are normal activity, maintaining the meal-replacement diet.

Today’s measurements: 124cm around the navel. 133.5kg. 35.3% body fat.

By my calculations, that means I have 47kg of fat. My target weight is 99kg. This will make me lighter than I’ve been in something like 21 years.

That’s the current state, and the end goal. This is my public accountability. Updates should be roughly weekly, and I’d appreciate it if friends of mine who read this can nudge me for updates on Mondays. Thanks!

Wish me luck!
