Stuff and Things – Monday May 7 2007
I find stuff and things on the net. Some of you might like some of them. Not every day, but this is quite a fun way to record stuff (and things) I stumble across…
Snooze please! Merlin Mann wants a way to just ignore people for just a little while… (on social network sites). I can see the benefits in that :)
I’m a big fan of the SteamPunk aesthete

Now, if only it was a bit more egonomic… (as a bonus, here’s another cool project from the same guy)
Dan made Spreadify – Fairly blatant Digg clone – I’m not sure New Zealand needs another one, but I bet he enjoyed coding it :)
Everyone needs a fluffy couch snake to cuddle! (SFW, honest)
… or perhaps a Russian Load Balancer (OK, that’s probably only me).
Sometimes, my “It’s their culture, don’t interfere” side is in fundamental disagreement with my “That shit’s just not right, and Someone should do Something” side. This is one of those times.
Slightly more upbeat… 10 signs you may be charging too little. Sometimes I wonder…
Top 30 Orange websites. Funny, I just finished the first pass design work on a website that turned out to be mostly orange… I wonder it it would make the cut (I’d link to it, but the customer hasn’t approved it yet).
Hear Bloody Hear! (Steve, please listen!). I know I’d buy one. I know at least one other person who would as well. It would also drive up demand for Apple Cinema Displays, I think…
Better Candid Photography. I far prefer candid stuff to posed…
Just so I don’t lose it, so I can find it again when I have time to look at this properly – 74 Quality Ruby on Rails Resources and Tutorials.
Preach it, brother! Learning to say ’sure, I can help, but since it’s what I do for a living, I need to charge you’ helps a lot. Now, about my Mother-in-law….
No link, but green tea rocks my world. I just wanted to share that.
24 hours of Flickr. Very cool project, even cooler that NZ starts it off (by virtue of timezones).

I’ve been doing a bunch of reading on kitset and modular homes. Lots of partial information out there. Where can I go to get more full information? I can find out how much it is to buy the kitset, but not even the vaguest of ideas what it would cost to get it all built, and wired and plumbed. Why is this not more transparent?
Jaiku is getting popular enough that it’s hard to keep up with what’s being said about us these days…
Barbie Cars and “Tokyo Drift” Don’t Mix.
Listening to Internet Talk Radio, with my bosses talking to Leo (and watching Leo at the same time)… not live now, but there’ll be a podcast in a couple of days. I’m famous again!
Top 20 strangest gadgets…. I think I want this desk, as long as I can put servers under the hood…
When Product Names Attack (Save Penryn!) (Not that I actually care, I just think it’s funny).
Hyper Productivity and Information Saturation (Thanks Si!)
ROI tends to be about incremental value. Traditional company budgeting and forecasting tends to be about incremental value [...]. But business in the burst economy is extreme, which calls for new approaches, fast failing and so on.
Next question – how do I apply this to the way I’m living my life? A Work In Progress….
I don’t work particularly well around other people, but I still think coworking is a particularly cool idea.
Why is Linux firewalling so obtuse?
7 cats in the house. 4 of them are rather small, and think my bare legs (well, the bottom half of my legs are bare) make good scratching posts/climbing trees. I am now, officially, a crazy cat person. Which lets me link to here.
That’s me, I’m out for the night.

Of course we need another Digg clone :)
“Christchurch’s Finest Receptionist” sure won’t make it to the front page of Digg.
